Exploring Genetic Linkages to Disease with Fast DNA Electrophoresis

Addiction affects everyone. The opioid epidemic has been particularly hard-hitting: two out of every three drug overdoses were due to opioids in 2018, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services. Understanding the genetic links to drug dependency can reduce the likelihood of opioids being prescribed to high-risk patients.

In this live webinar developed with educators for educators, attendees will discover the genetics and math used to evaluate the likelihood of an individual becoming addicted to a drug. The talk will also discuss personalized medicine, make connections to key classroom concepts, and how students can perform genetic analysis in the classroom using fast DNA gel electrophoresis, statistics, published data, and the Science of Opioid Dependence Kit.

This webinar will be presented by Tamica Stubbs. Tamica has a background in science education and was a former science teacher. In her role at Bio-Rad, she helps teachers implement relevant and engaging biotech labs through hands-on training and personalized curriculum support.
